In the final concert of the Bachfest, there will sound Magnificat-versions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Arvo Pärt as well as a première of a work by Harald Weiss using the same Magnificat-text (song of praise for Mary). The composer is one of the leading figures of our time. Beside works for musical theatre and for various ensembles, he has composed the “Bremer Requiem” for the 32nd German protestant church day in 2009. A special appeal of this concert is the extraordinary location - a shipyard that is still in operation and where completely different sounds are produced by the workers and machines during the day. For creating a connection to the shipyard, the concert cast is going to contain a lot of percussion instruments. Their rhythmic patterns will reminiscent of the machines, that usually ‘make music’ in the shipyard.
Especially in the parallels of the projected cast (voices and metallic-sounds) – as well as in the timeless meaning of the theological concern on which the Magnificat-text is based – an exciting counterpoint will come to life in the contemporary interpretation of the work.

Arvo Pärt:

Johann Sebastian Bach:

Harald Weiss:
