Ton Koopman studied organ, harpsichord and musicology in Amsterdam, where he specialised in Baroque music with particular attention to J.S. Bach. As an organist and harpsichordist his repertoire reaches from the Renaissance to the Classical period and he has appeared in the most prestigious concert halls of the world. He founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir with which he gained worldwide fame. In recent years, he has been very active as a guest conductor. Ton Koopman teaches at the University of Leiden and is artistic director of the festival “Itinéraire Baroque”.
